Terms of Use

Expectancy is made by Serious Business Software LLC. These terms cover the Expectancy app for iPhone and iPad and this website.

Licence

Expectancy is distributed through the App Store and licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA). That agreement governs your use of the app. Nothing on this page replaces it; this page adds the points below.

Not medical advice

Expectancy gives a statistical estimate built from population data: WHO life tables and published studies of groups of people. It is not a diagnosis, not a prediction about what will happen to you, and not medical advice.

  • The estimate is only as good as the answers you give it, and it cannot see anything you have not told it.
  • Almost every input comes from observational research, so an association in the app does not prove that changing that thing would change your lifespan.
  • Do not start, stop or change any treatment, medication, diet or exercise programme because of something the app shows you without talking to a doctor or other qualified health professional.
  • If you think you may be having a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately.

The app is provided for information and general interest. To the extent the law allows, Serious Business Software LLC is not liable for decisions made on the basis of its estimates. How the number is calculated explains the model and its known limitations in full.

What is free and what is paid

Your estimate is free and is never gated. It is calculated from every factor you answer, whether you pay or not, and paying never changes the number.

Paying unlocks more of the reasoning behind it: the per-factor breakdown for every category, the full diet analysis, disease projections and the whole simulator. There are two ways to pay, both through the App Store:

  • One-off unlock: a single payment that unlocks everything permanently, with nothing further to pay. It can be shared with your family through Family Sharing.
  • Weekly subscription: includes a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your Apple Account is charged the weekly price when it ends, and then every week until you cancel. The app shows the exact date of the first charge before you subscribe.

Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy. Payment is taken by Apple, and your subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel a subscription in the Settings app: your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges; it does not delete the app or your data, and your estimate stays free.

Restore Purchases is in the app’s Settings, if you reinstall or move to a new iPhone or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account.

Refunds

All payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no access to your payment and cannot issue refunds ourselves.

Your data

The app keeps your answers on your device and has no account. The privacy policy describes exactly what stays on your device and the one thing that can leave it if you choose to send it.

Changes

We may update these terms. The current version will always be on this page with its effective date.
